Hi and welcome to a website dedicated to the amazing Pubs and Bars in Melbourne.
My name is Ant and I have a small dream goal to visit every pub in Collins Street, Melbourne City.
Collins Street for me is the heart of the Melbourne Pub scene, with a number of completely different styles of pubs, and I had a goal to visit every one of them.
My friend Martyn said it would be great to document this momentous task as this may give visitors to Melbourne a great way to enjoy the nightlife – and the pubs extra revenue.
So, lets start with what is the difference between a pub and bar.
Well you might ask!
A pub, like the word tavern, is more English which served the community and was more for the common man. A bar is more the American version where a person can walk off the street for a ‘tibble’. Both serve alcohol, but a pub will have more of a food menu.
In Melbourne we have all heard of the Pub Parma!
Bars also tend to be louder with music, and you are able to move from bar to bar, as each bar will have a distinct vibe.
A pub will have more of a casual atmosphere, where you can sit and have a quiet drink.
Pubs will also have more selection of beer and wines and some ciders. Because of the full food menu, pubs will allow some minors in with a parent (yes, they are not served alcohol, and the publican will not take a drinks order from minors).
A bar will only have a limited food menu, and is not an establishment you will take the family to.
A little about me: I am 50+, I enjoy drinking beer, and I have grown well past my teenage drinking issues.
For me this is not a review blog, I am not here to help or hinder a business, but to help people navigagte the large number of bars in Melbourne city and surrounds.
This is a challenge for me to have a drink in every pub/bar in Collins Street. It is that simple!
So, as you can guess I will not discuss the food menu either. I will point out that the drinks I order will always be on tap (never bottled!).
I’ll cover off things like:
• How different is each drinking establishment.
• What is interesting, egany sort of unique history.
• Pricing of the pint I purchased, especially if I think if it is too costly (just in case you are budget minded); but keep in mind the price of a pint of beer has gone up, so be prepared.
• Ambience of the pub; this is important.
• Why you would drink there.
• Who this pub or bar is more suited for.
My focus is Collins Street in Melbourne City. I will have other friends, from time to time, to write about their finds in and around Melbourne.
Without further ado, let’s go and explore the Amazing Pubs in Melbourne!!
